Creative studio portrait for entrepreneur, by Shawn Moreton in Ottawa

Shawn was wonderful to work with. I usually feel a bit awkward in front of the camera, but he made the process comfortable. His pose suggestions were really helpful. The photos turned out better than expected, they captured the vibe I was hoping for and they made me feel confident and pretty. I’d definitely recommend him to anyone considering a shoot.” - Sarah T.

Common Questions About Portrait Sessions in Ottawa & Gatineau

If you’re thinking about booking a portrait session in the Ottawa or Gatineau area, you probably have a few questions about how it all works — from choosing a location to what to wear and what to expect after your shoot. Below are answers to some of the most common questions I get about portrait sessions, whether you’re an entrepreneur, creative, or professional looking for natural, authentic images that reflect your personality and brand.

Portrait Session FAQ - Ottawa & Gatineau Portrait Photography

  • There are so many great options in the National Capital Region for portraits. Some popular choices include Major’s Hill Park, the Experimental Farm, the Arboretum, Gatineau Park, and areas around the ByWard Market and downtown Ottawa. Each location offers a different look — from urban to natural to architectural. I can also suggest lesser-known spots that fit your creative or professional brand.

  • Choose outfits that reflect your personal or professional style. For entrepreneurs and creatives, this might mean pieces that align with your brand colours or aesthetic. For actors or performers, bring options that show your range. Avoid overly busy patterns or large logos — solid colours and simple textures tend to photograph best.

  • You’ll typically receive your finished gallery within about two weeks of your session. During busier times, it may take up to four weeks. If you need your images sooner for a specific project or launch, I can often accommodate rush requests

  • Ottawa weather can be unpredictable, but I always plan with flexibility in mind. If needed, we can reschedule or potentially move to an indoor location. I’ll monitor the forecast and keep in touch beforehand so everything runs smoothly.

  • Absolutely! Items that represent your work or personality — such as instruments, laptops, notebooks, or even a beloved pet — can add a personal touch to your portraits. Just let me know in advance so I can plan the setup.

  • You can reach out through my contact page or email me directly at contact@shawnmoreton.com - Once we confirm a date, I’ll send you a short booking form and session guide to help you prepare.
